Rocket Man.....

...burning out his fuse up here alone. Or something like that with apologies to Elton John.

I'm having problems sourcing decent internal and external 70mm rocket audio FX. Going quietly insane browsing online videos with enough quality, no music or talking, background noise. Might have to see about recording something, internally its similar to someone banging on a metal shutter.

Made some big improvements to stores loading, adding of preset load-outs and I nudged one of the shorter  hydra rocket types so it sits forward in the M261 pod to make them visible (to facilitate zone loading).

    More like a small firework/rocket going up. There must be something like that available. It can't be too obnoxious a sound as you can ripple a lot of rockets.

  7. Funny think about that EECH video, I don't remember adding "You have control" to the script. Although there was a bunch of things I thought would be relevant that didn't make the cut. Was that added later as an audio mod?

  9. I don't like Elder Scrolls games. Oblivion put me off with the character creation. You were given total freedom to create a multi-class character, fantastic...but then punished for doing so later in the game by really duff balancing. It was too easy to create a non-viable hero.

  10. I think it just depended on you, in which the direction you trained character.You want melee mage with heavy hammer and fireball?No problem.It's stupid? Yes that's stupid;)Such are the limitations of the game. But you do not have to do this.At the beginning you need have visions of your character.And go in this direction.

  11. There's a FFAR sound I created in the sound zip file I sent over. It's not the best possible sound but it should be a good base to work from. It could do with a louder thump at the beginning.

  12. AD, only just found them in a hard to see compressed archive. Thanks for the heads-up.

    I applied first a high-pass then a low pass filter, then increased the tempo by 80%, finally increasing the bass. That makes it sound close to what I want (a combo of the metalic shutters and a "shuush").

    Could use a little more pink noise but I'm happy with it. Cheers.

  17. With large rocket salvos you can get a lot of smoke overdraw in a short amount of time, so what I'm going to do is set the emitter density according to the selected salvo count. See how that works out.

    You don't get much smoke later in flight, just the first two seconds but it gets stupid if you select all 19 rockets...on two pods.

  18. I know this effect ;) in EECH max salvo rockets looks great,but for 5 sec do not see anything from the cockpit.

  20. Will be a huge requirement,texture must occupy hundreds of megabytes RAM, so far Arma 2 requires a mighty hardware,and it is unplayable on most hardware on high detail.
    But the shock wave looks amazing.

  23. Battlefield 3 looks almost photoreal. A convergence of graphics that eventually leads to games looking similar. I wait with interest to see what happens then.

    Although, going back to the Arma3 teaser, the smoke/explosion looks similar to a megaparticle technique where you render the explosion as a geometric shape (a group of simple spheres) and then apply a fractal cubemap as noise then Gaussian blur. You get really good directional lighting on smoke plus the geometry fully interacts with surrounding objects.

  29. Hey Banita that Argentinian pilot is damn lucky he didn't kill someone. Crazy flyby. I remember when a Herc did a low flyby at Weston_on_the_Green in UK and unfortunately took decapitated an onlooker. Flyby's went a bit quiet for a whileafter that.

    Liked the way he over-G'd the aircraft on the pull up too ;)

  31. AD was showing me some more expensive Battlefield 3 explosions. For all the fluff and effects if we added stuff like that into the game, even lens flares, it would look out of place.

    Happy to push the styling a bit but don't want to go too much in the photo-realism direction, wasting time better spent on game depth.

  32. Ta. I just added some rocket trails and they are not too different although not as bright, rocket motors generally don't put out much smoke and only burn for a very short duration.

  33. Model Rockets would be a good source for Sound FX

    The larger D & F motors should be good enough & are fairly cheap :)
