If you look at the heading tape of the screen-shot you'll see in the heading tape the "butt-cheeks" (two Ds back to back) on a heading of 225, off axis by 45 degrees. This indicates the direction the radar is pointing, as the FCR display is 'always up' in GTM mode. This can be a little disorientating and the radar footprint is mirrored on the TSD, this paints a clearer picture of where it's pointing. Failing that you can see the radome outside the aircraft turning as it seeks out the designated offset.
(And why are all our aircraft IDs Z666? We shall never know. If you have a TrackIR and explore the cockpit nooks there's even a Clint Eastwood reference in it).
Radar offset angle is set by clicking on either of the two LEFT RIGHT arrow buttons on the MPD or your designated sensor left/right control input when the FCR is your selected sensor. (If TADS is selected the sensor control steers TADS instead). NOTE: The offset can not be moved while the FCR is active, although you can queue movement by hitting the offset control then quickly cycling the FCR burst key. Got it?
It will be in the manual. Promise.

In the front seat, TEDAC view of the FCR |
OK, I got it! Z666 was your avatar when you were a young, adolescent gamer, right?
ReplyDeleteat the bottom of the starboard MPD are those UTM coords?
It is the Mark of the Beast!!!!
ReplyDeleteArrow buttons for the PLT and handgrip sensor control for the CPG. One press will shift left or right *one* scan size. Front seat can move the scan area with thumb provided it is unslaved, if it is slaved then it is looking at the ACQ source.
What do you mean by "when the FCR is active"? You mean when scanning?
When the FCR state is XMIT.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say one scan size you mean if the sector is 180 degrees, a slew right will rotate it 180?
I fixed it at 45 degrees per regardless. Hmmm, with "your" method the scan wedge can end up pointing where I don't want it if I play with sectors sizes and rotation, unless there's some reset.
@jefff
Yes, lat/lon, based on the map offset specified in the default campaign file, which for the range and my 'cyberzone' test area is a copy of the Herat map so it looks like I'm way out far east.
Last screen with hand- fantastic !
ReplyDeleteya that last one is really interesting to look at.
ReplyDeleteIm thinking (realism aside)that shifting the wedge 45 left/right is the way to go.
Right Rich... Gotta look up ATM mode but GTM is 90 max... To me, realism is the way to go... Otherwise I can't train. LOL...
ReplyDeleteNew Batman game has many different costumes for Bats, so I am hoping we see many different uniforms for the crewmembers... LOL...
I wasn't so clear in the previous post... If you have a 90 degree scan sector and the PLT pressed left arrow on FCR page, the scan centerline will rotate 90 left...
ReplyDeleteI need to put a big label on the game "NOT A FLYING TOY", I don't think Combat-Helo will ever get certified for use as a trainer :)
ReplyDeleteAnd we're not getting paid for that level or work anyway. Since we don't have access to class'fd metrics and that stuff it's not going to happen, nor could we publish it anyway.
I have to pay for this stuff you know. My couches have holes in I can't afford to replace. All true. Not much money in this, I think the expression is "betting the farm"?
But rookie pilots are not going to need to play with this anyway so it's not going to hurt by doing it your way.
ALSO I'll be really pissed if you got to play the new Batman game already. I've been really looking forward to this.
We don't have a character clothing system yet. Or anything much to do with humanoids. The Leadwerks engine seriously needs some kind of integrated system for this and I had chance to post about it at length recently on the developers blog. I think we'll have to stick to 4 or 5 characters.
Skinning is a problem due to the nature of how geometry is instanced but I'm looking at a way to set 2 to 4 'skin slots'. Depends what performance we get out of it.
Remember we're just 2.5 guys with no R&D budget. We can only work with what we have on the table which is why we love it when a joystick or video card manufacture comes and puts more stuff on it.
I was unemployed for 9 months during this :/ had to stop being unemployed because the law requires I only do 14 hours of unpaid work. They seem to think that developing high-end simulations is cutting into my job search time. I had interviews with Codemasters, Dubbit and others but never got a break. Nobody would hire me but it is in my nature to understate especially when it comes to myself. That's not likely to change since I rate honesty and loyalty highly.
So I've got nothing else better to do than fix up FCR offsets, systems integration and continue scouring the job market.
Not that you wanted to know that. But there you go. I said it.
You can have your wedge and I'll lock off the GTM offset at +-90.
I will also play in the new Batman, and what better This will be 100% Game of the Year.We both regret that you do not have time to play this beautiful game .... :D
ReplyDeleteMy candidates for Game of the Year-Batman, Skryrim, and fantastic Deus Ex.
The biggest crap and disappointment-Rage :/
The biggest surprise-new BMS-amazing.
I'll make time for Batman, I don't get much time to play these days. I still have a bunch of characters in Star Trek Online although I probably got kicked out of my fleet before I had chance to play with them.
ReplyDeleteOn Saturday I watched my eldest daughter play what I think is perhaps the best RPG I've ever seen for sheer cleverness and production value, Fabel III. Time well spent. They set up events in innocent ways and there's an ongoing Chicken theme (I never found out how you Chicken Punt). She played that game all-day, like a book you can't put down.
Skyrim I'll wait on, I never forgave Oblivion for crippling my character through game mechanics after level 25. After spending so much time levelling up only to be left with an unplayable character is bad form.
And Deus Ex I'm starting to like but I've not played it much. It feels like a Metal Gear Solid game without the crazy soap opera and lecturing. So, MGS minus the bad bits.
To quote Plinkett on Avatar, "If I wanted a message, I'd listen to my answering machine"
BTW I've had a terrible day so if I sound a bit cranky, I am.
ReplyDeleteI do apologise.
You must have a lot of heavy days recently,Dave also probably.I can only keep our fingers crossed it will be fine.Hold up there.
ReplyDeleteHear that Dave? Up your end mate. (Reference to removal men lugging a piano up the stairs, not too far removed from what it feels like)
ReplyDeletewhat you and dave do is not only an incredible amount of work buts pretty F@#$$%ing incredible...
ReplyDeleteRich, I am just hoping that CH will land you some good opportunities in the future. I remember seeing this project and very basic screenies back in 2004, never thought it would come to this level. You guys have more accomplished with 2.5 people than the entire Fighter Ops ever put out there. To be honest, it is much more fun to me to watch and observe the development on the blog rather than having the sim here at home and not touch it due to time constraints. Falcon BMS for instance, I made sure it runs and that is it, didn't fly it more than 10 mins. We didn't get to watch their development, but it is different here, I feel we are all helping and making a change.
ReplyDeleteI wish you landed a military contract like ED people did with that A-10C sim. This thing is much better than our 2D procedural trainer...
As for the flight uniforms, A2CU multicam search string should land a few references for you when you can skin 3D models :)
I pre-ordered Arkham City, didn't get my hands on it yet... It is going to be a legend...
Here are the costumes;
http://jivemonsters.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Arkham_City_Costumes_01.jpg
Bunch of different ones, Beyond, Earth One, YEar One, Animated Series, etc... I wanted an actual design of Nolan's Dark Knight not just a third-party skin but Rocksteady's Bats is almost as big as Hulk, not a tiny guy like Christian Bale. Look at his neck LOL... Other game genres you guys are talking about... Never got into them. So far only sims and first/third persons...
Thanks for all you guys have been doing...
Oh man,
ReplyDeleteFirst Bush, thanks very much for those words, it's very much appreciated.
Point well taken on sims eating up time. This was the goal of our Afghan campaign, make it a 'dip into' experience that has real progression from session to session. A 20 min fix, best way to describe it would be Risk in the Helicopter. Obviously this is not what the Prologue can deliver. But for me the actual game part is the dynamic campaign. That's when you'll see where we want to take combat sims/games.
And also thanks for the link to the Batman costumes. Wow, the Warner Animated Series outfit!!! That's nice. The costume from the first games was amazing with the little reinforcement joints and 3 stage deterioration. The others outfits I don't care so much for (and the first one??? What the hell is that? Pantherman? Pumaman?). I had been playing Arkham Asylum off and on to get me in the mood. The way progression was done by gating the cool bat-toys was well thought out.
It's been a pretty heavy load all round I think. At the beginning of this year I started working on a masters degree. Balancing the work load between full time work (teaching), working on Combat-Helo and putting the necessary effort into another degree was too much. Last in, first out. I didn't enjoy it even 1/10th as much as I enjoy working on Combat Helo so I wasn't too bothered about dropping it but the lost tuition fees were difficult to stomach.
ReplyDeleteCheers
