Data Export - Debug and Multiplayer Ops (using xRTML)

Another quick update.

Thanks to Sergio's efforts we have a working prototype for a potential online 'war-room'. Using XRTML and a proxy application dubbed RTCH (Real Time CombatHelo interface?) which listens on a local port.  Combat-Helo and tools pushes data in and out of proxy. The proxy communicates with the XRTML server farm which distributes data to and from all listening browser pages. We'll be working on a HTML5 Canvas tool so we can render more complex data such as vector graphics. This potentially allows players and their friends access to their game sessions - in real-time - through a browser. I've also sent aircraft and avionic "state" data from the helicopter which would allow for browser based instrument repeaters. By adding code to certain base classes that use "reflection" I can now view debug data remotely which is going to be a huge time-saver for me.

This has been created as a development aid and proof-of-concept. With such a system, players across the world don't even need the game running to participate in planning and execution.

Just started on Mission editor and Event Manager

Nexus 7 Google Chrome being updated by game data real-time.
The proxy app could also be interfaced with FSX via SimConnect and pushed to browsers in the same way.

Over the coming week, mission code and mobile units will be migrated from the test modules into the game so I can begin integrated testing.

  2. We're getting close to a game but I can't guesstimate. Pushing it for a small private demo next month then we'll have another look.

We'll be doing a staged released, so early alpha gunner range will be the first release. After that we'll roll everything out as we go through coding and test cycles on a semi-regular basis.

  3. So about the demo, do you like need to sign up for it, or is everyone able to play it?

    1. Alas I had to cancel at the last min, my wife had to be rushed into to hospital last weekend so it went way down the list of priorities :/

Was really looking forward to it and everything booked in advance. Will try and re-schedule for another show.

On the plus side, she was in the ward right under the heli-pad so I got to watch a landing and take-off :) Captured some nice audio too.

  6. I can't believe that the project I've been following for some years could be dead. C'mon Richard, don't give up. You've already come so far now...

  8. We're more than half-way through August and it's been 3 months since he's made a peep about anything regarding Helicopters. It's over, we'll never have an Apache Sim.

    GG, go fly a KA-50.

  11. I think unless you know the reasons why progress hasn't been made or he hasn't been around much you shouldn't slate the guy, you have no idea what is going on in his life. He has never given a release date or taken any money from anyone. I know how much time and effort he has put into CH so far and I know for sure he would've loved it to have been released by now.

  15. Its not dead trust me. Pay no attention to some morons who should not even be allowed to post. When time permits which it should do soon we are sure to get an update on further progress. Remember Combat Helo does not pay the bills.

  16. Flex, Nice Video of the most recent footage from Combat helo on Linked In. Couple of questions I have. Will there be support to render the MFD's as view ports so we can build a Helios touch screen display profile to control the MFD pages? And have you thought of any support toward Oculos Rift? Would be so damn cool to have the HMDS working on that.

  17. I go away for a few weeks...*sigh*

I'll get a blog update together sometime today, I HAVE been avoiding updating this blog until I had something awesome to show (like working Hellfires). Short story, got lumbered with another paying project that needed my attention.

Behind the scenes I've been auditioning for crew audio as we did't have complete scripts for the firing range. I'm happy to say I found someone who did a great job. Now I'm just scratching my head how best to cram all the audio in without causing on-load stuttering.

To answer your queries Cyclic, MFDs can be exported. As for the Oculus Rift, how will that work when you can't see your controls and sticks? Still sceptical but I think version 2.0 will be out by the time CH-OO ships at this rate.

If you could see THROUGH the helmet displays, that would be a different story. There's been a couple of guys looking at making a HMD device using a pocket projector.

Anyway, have to work now. Will post an update soon. Promise.

  19. Reverting to the Oculos Rift yes there will be issues with not being able to see any keyboards and controls but by the time it comes out maybe the Leap Motion technology would have come along far enough to engage a fully clickable cockpit. Better get working on 3D hand with a pointy finger on it.
